12/03/12: Ibiza Rocks announce this morning the main set of bands for the 2012 series of gigs.
New Order, Kasabian, Kaiser Chiefs, Bloc Party. Tinie Tempah, Chase & Status, Maverick Sabre, Example, labrinth, Professor Green
The big one is obviously New Order. This will be the first time they've played live on the Ibiza and will headlne on the 12th September. They have history though with Ibiza as it was here they recorded their seminal album "Technique".Kasabian will return to headline the Ibiza Rocks 7th birthday gig on 11th July. Another band who've played rockin' sets at the previous home of Ibiza rocks (Bar M) are Kaiser Cheifs who play on 227th June.
Other returning bands and artists are Maverick Sabre & Labrinth on 13th June, Professor Green on 18th July, Chase & Status on 1st August, Tinie Tempah on 15th August, Example on 29th August. Although Kele Okereke has played ibiza Rocks before in his solo incantion, Bloc Party will play on 5th September.
Resident DJ’s Doorly, Nicola Bear and Colin Peters will also be back behind the decks for 2012.
13/12/11: Ed Sheeran plays the opening of Mallorca & Ibiza Rocks on 5/6th June respectively and Two Door Cinema Club play the closing party on 18/19th Sep respectively.
In 2005 a new event called Ibiza Rocks began putting on one-off gigs in Ibiza at the Manumission night at the world's largest club: Privilege. Those first bands included Juliette & The Licks, The Kooks, Kaiser Chiefs, Skunk Anansie and Fisherspooner... After the success and interest generated in 2005, Ibiza Rocks launched at their own outside venue by taking over Bar M, right by the beach in San Antonio. That year a whole new generation of music lovers came to Ibiza to see the biggest bands under the Ibiza sky instead of a sweaty venue: Kasabian, The Fratellis, Keane, Mika, The Automatic and Babyshambles and the rest is history...

In 2006, promoter Andy Mckay said: "A lot of people were sceptical when we launched Ibiza Rocks last year, but now it couldn’t be more different! We recognised the sheer thirst for live music in Ibiza and we were the first to introduce band culture into club culture. Hardened clubbers may criticise us for re-introducing the guitar to the island, but we genuinely feel that we are helping ensure the future of the clubs in Ibiza. We are living through an exhilarating shift in youth culture and it is vital that we allow each generation to discover and re-invent dance music in a way that is relevant to them and the time they live in. Anyone who tries to impose strict rules on a youth movement is harming it. Last year, we followed club culture rules and put bands on at 4am, but due to the huge success of Ibiza Rocks, this year we have Bar M - a dedicated live music venue where bands will play full live sets at 9 or 10pm. We are breaking rules in Ibiza..and it’s working!"
Two years later the newly branded Ibiza Rocks Hotel opened in 2008 - it was perfect: hot weather, cool accommodation, Ibiza Rocks fashion shop, daytime pool parties, live gigs at night and right in the middle of party central: San Antonio.
After the successes in Ibiza, the Mallorca Rocks Hotel launched in Magaluf in June 2010. Bigger and better than anything else in Mallorca and again with a permanent stage in the open air-courtyard, the first year saw sell-out shows from the likes of Dizzee Rascal, Calvin Harris and Pendulum.
For 2012 the gigs take place in Ibiza every Wednesday from 6th June to 19th September and every Tuesday from 5th June to 18th Sept in Mallorca.
